Top Playgrounds of Greater Lafayette

Wrap up the Summer and breeze into Fall by visiting our local playgrounds! If you find yourself with extra time for the kiddos on weeknights or weekends, here are some great places to check out through the community. Many local events happen at these park too throughout the Summer and Fall seasons cut as the West Lafayette Farmer’s Market every Wednesday through October at Cumberland Park or events (Justin Moore in Concert September 2,2022 & Coco Movie Showing October 7, 2022!) at Loeb Stadium at Columbian Park! So, keep your eyes open for fun things happening throughout Greater Lafayette, IN Parks & Recreation.

Murdock Park

Cason St, Lafayette, IN 47904

Murdock Park lines up right across the street from Murdock Elementary School. You’ll see lots of kids out and about here on an average weekday. This play set is newly updates and lots of fun for all ages. Murdock Park has a small walking trail, shelters for rent, and a disc golf course! Murdock is also home to one of the most popular sledding hills in Greater Lafayette, IN. So, be sure to tuck that information into your back pocket for when the snow comes!

Prophetstown State Park

Park Entrance: 5545 Swisher Road Office: 4112 E, IN-225, West Lafayette, IN 47906

This State Park in our backyard is a treasure. To enter, there is a $7/vehicles admission fee, but there are 3 different playground to choose from inside the grounds. They’re all beautifully maintained wooden play sets with an awesome landscape background. Additionally, check out the Farm at Prophetstown, aquatic center, paved bike trails, and so much more while you’re on the grounds. You won’t regret visiting!

McCaw Park

McCaw Park, Lafayette, IN 47905

Conveniently located close to Interstate 65, you can easily access it from most neighborhoods within or around Lafayette. This fun, updated in 2017 playground sits among other amenities including baseball fields and a pickleball court. Did you know pickle ball is the fastest growing sport in America?! This playground sits on, ”poured-in-place rubber surfacing, ensuring that all people can gain access to the facility.”

Happy Hollow Park

1301 Happy Hollow Rd, West Lafayette, IN 47906

Nestled down into a good ol’ Indiana hollow, this 81 acre park has so much going for it: a brand new dog park, paved trails, shelters to rent for your family’s next get together, and so much more. However, the most notable feature really is the playground. Brand new in 2019, this playground serves every child’s imagination. Big or small kiddos – they’ve got you covered. Come here to let the entire family run free! This is a community favorite.

Munger Park

3505 Greenbush St., Lafayette IN 47905

Munger Park is a 32-acre park located in the northeast portion of Lafayette. It has 1-Mile Paved Trail, a Picnic Shelter, Grill, Multi-Age Playground, Open Green Space and Wildflower Areas, Pond and Public Restrooms. The unique trail (see map with trail distances) is surrounded by open space to toss a Frisbee or relax in the sun after walking. The trail curves around the pond where fishing is permitted (all state regulations apply). There is one, 100 person capacity shelter available to rent at Munger Park. 

Cumberland Park

3065 N Salisbury St, West Lafayette, IN 47906

Approximately 62 acres in size with 16 acres in Michaud-Sinninger Woods Nature Preserve and 14 acres of turf/soccer fields. Cumberland Park contains a picnic shelter, playground, 1/2 mile footpath, 2 lighted softball fields, basketball courts, volleyball court, and community vegetable gardens, 2 lighted basketball courts and the Pony League Baseball field. Check out the West Lafayette Wellness Center while you’re there too! It’s an amazing facility with a ton of resources available to our community.

Armstrong Park

851 Beck Ln, Lafayette, IN 47909

Armstrong has a cool, wooden playground tucked behind a huge pond and some baseball diamonds. It’s well shaded, and there are many other things to do while you’re here too. Consider riding your bike on the 2/3 mile paved trail that runs right behind the park. Perhaps bring you fishing license and gear for some fishing after you play. Or stay and spend your weekend day at Castaway Bay. So much fun to be had at this park!

Columbian Park

1915 Scott Street, Lafayette, IN 47904

Explore all the things that Columbian Park has to offer. Located in the heart of Greater Lafayette, Columbian Park offers the Columbian Park ZooLoeb Stadium (home of the Lafayette Aviators), paddle boats at Memorial Island, a train (Columbian Park Zoo Express), Tropicanoe Cove water park, huge playground at the top of the hill and Wild Tykes Play Zone amusement area. This park has it all!
